Liptov is for its location between peaks of the High Tatras, Western Tatras, Chočské mountains, Low Fatra, Big Fatra the most visited tourist region in Slovakia. Cultural and economic centers of Liptov are Liptovský Mikuláš, Ružomberok and Liptovský Hrádok. There are many natural beauties at the area of more than 2000 kilometers square. The most important are Demänovská, Jánska and Žiarska valley, of georges it is Kvačianska gorge and Prosecká valley. From the jewels of speleology there are Demänovská Ice Cave, Demänovská Cave of Freedom and Stanišovská Cave. There is the abyss Starýhrad, Vrbické and Roháčske lake, Brankovksý and Lučanský travertine waterfall too and mineral springs, which are the destinations of turists. Rich history of the region supported by finds from the Celtic period, the archeological museum at the top Havránok. From the Middle Ages kept Liptovský castle, Likava and Liptovský hrádok. Yeomanry represents the number of castles and mansions in Liptovský Ján, Bešeňová and Palúdzka. Wooden church in Svätý kríž is the largest of its kind in Central Europe. Church Dvoch sŕdc also called Archa Locus in Liptovské Sliače shows skills of today´s builders. The museum of folk architecture in Pribilin and in Vlkolínec remined us heritage of architecture. An important monuments of folk architectonics are mills and saw at Oblazy.
The newly built settings of tourism contribute to enjoy an active digestion, whether summer or winter holiday. Thermal swimming pools in Tatralandia, Bešeňová, Lipotvský Ján an in Lúčky offers services all year. Liptovská Mara dam offers opportunities for windsurfing, water skiing, fishing and boat ride. The other activities are horse riding, quad biking, cycling, scenic flights, karting, paintball but also extreme sports such as paragliding, rock climbing, rafting and so on.
In winter there is a wide choice of slopes for beginnes to exacting skiers. The most important centre of winter sports is Chopok - Jasná. Another is Malinô Brdo – Ružomberok, Liptovský Ján – Javorica, Opalisko – Liptov, Čertovica and so on. The ridges of Low and Western Tatras are a paradise for ski alpinists and their valleys are atractive for country skiing.
For lovers of folklore we recommend the festivals of folklore singing and dance, in Východná there are festivals of folk tales of Pavol Dobšinský for kids. Another there is the funicular railway in Jasná, bobsleight railway in Pavčina Lehota and western city Šiklúv Mlyn.
Many others attractions and interesting places is a guarantee that when you visit Liptov you find his form for your relaxation.
